LOved the comments, the pictures, ALL of it. I’m a friend of David’s. We e-met while I was in Japan–not Tokyo–during 1999-03. YOur impressions make me miss it, from the heated toilet seats to the T-shirts. “Lick the FUture!” NO, lick the past! So much is so ECHT Japanese, such as that infantilizing VOICE that accompanies you everywhere and that gets into your head. I swear, it’s still in mine, or else its absence is. And what about the belly dancer at the Indo-Pak restaurant? This is all wonderful stuff to read about. Your responses are so fresh, so searching. I’ll remain a devoted reader.

It’s been awhile since I’ve visited. So much you’ve done! I loved reading it all, even about the Court. Especially the food. (A guy we used to know in Japan had a similar story–AND HE ATE THE QUIVERING THING.) No, especially Obaido, about which I’d never heard, and now wish I had.) No–well, everything really. The blog is so straightforwardly done, it’s very engaging, very–a Tokyo-ic word coming–clean. One surprise: that David is such an “intrepid” (your word) eater. Not me. I’d rather watch, or roll my eyes. Among many, many comments I could make, just two: check out if you can one of the great silly movies,”The Barbarian and the Geisha.” JOHN WAYNE
